Where is Ranguana Caye?

Ranguana Caye is a private island located an hour off the coast of Placencia, Belize. It is next to the Belize Barrier Reef and offers excellent fishing from shore. Placencia is a peninsula in Southern Belize. We recommend spending a night or two before and after your stay at Ranguana Caye in Placencia. How do I get to Ranguana Caye CABANAS?

Ranguana Caye's pick-up location is at the Municipal Boat Pier in the village of Placencia. To reach Placencia, you first need to fly into Belize City International Airport.

From there, you have a couple of option that we are happy to help arrange:

  • Take a 35-minute commuter flight from Belize City to Placencia

  • Book a ground transfer that takes about 4 hours.

The boat to Ranguana Caye departs from Placencia’s Municipal Boat Pier at 9:00 AM. For your return trip, the boat will depart from Ranguana Caye for Placencia based on your international flight departure time and the transfer option you chose back to Belize City International Airport. How big is Ranguana Caye?

Ranguana Caye is a 2-acre private island. It has a beach bar with a kitchen and three cabanas on the island. The maximum number of overnight guests is 6. The maximum number of day guests is 25.

DO YOU HAVE TVS, PHONES OR WI-FI IN THE ROOMS?

We have no TVs or phones in the rooms, but each room has Wi-Fi access. We want you to get away from it all and relax as much as possible! If you really need to use the phone just ask a manager and you are more than welcome to use the office phone.

WILL THERE BE OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND?

Most likely, yes. Ranguana Caye offers day trips for guests staying in Placencia and is a popular island for moorings. There are also three cabanas on the island, so there is the possibility of other overnight guests. There will be a full service team on the island during your stay. If you are looking for a fully private island experience, we offer private island rentals by request.

Will I get bored on a private island?

We haven't had anyone complain about being bored yet! There's plenty to do at Ranguana Caye! Hang at Bully's Beach Bar or in one of our many hammocks including a custom tree net daybed. Play beach volleyball, giant jenga, or any of our other island games. Snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef just off the coast of the island. Try your luck paddleboarding or host your own kayak competition. We offer Fly Fishing and Reef Fishing with expert guides or hand line from shore with one of our team members. Spend your evenings by campfire or, if you're lucky, spend them seeing baby sea turtles hatch and make their way to the sea for the first time (Ranguana is known for sea turtle nests).

DO YOU WELCOME FAMILIES AT Ranguana Caye?

Yes, we are open to anyone of any age the visit our beautiful island paradise! Just be sure to bring child safe sunscreen and bug repellent for them and keep a close eye on them near the water. If you are looking to stay the night, we offer additional beds to be used for children in the cabanas.

WHAT LIQUOR IS INCLUDED IN THE All Inclusive, Island Style PACKAGE?

Local liquors include: Hyper Vodka, 1 Barrel Rum, Caribbean White Rum, Caribbean Dark Rum, and Kokonut Rum, along with Belikin Beer, Belikin Stout, Land Shark and Lighthouse

IS THERE ELECTRICITY AT Ranguana Caye?

Yes. Our power is 110V with the same plug style as North America. We have generators but prefer to run the Caye from our deep cycle batteries, which store energy captured by solar panels and wind generators.  You can help us be power conscious by leaving your high demand appliances, such as hair dryers, at home.

CAN YOU DRINK THE WATER AT Ranguana Caye?

Our island is eco-friendly and self-sustainable. All of our shower and sink water is rain water and desalination collection. It is perfectly safe to brush your teeth, shower and wash your hands with. There is a 5 gallon fresh drinking water container located in each room and always plenty of bottled water available. Water is our most precious resource on the island and should be used with care. 

WHAT IS THE TIME ZONE IN BELIZE?

Belize is on Central Standard Time. However, we do not have daylight savings. That means we have no time change in the summer months. During those months we are on Mountain Standard Time.

DO I NEED A PASSPORT TO TRAVEL TO BELIZE?

A valid passport is all that is required for citizens of the Australia, Britain, Canada, Hong Kong, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, United States, Venezuela, and CARICOM member states, as well as nationals of European Community. Belize requires citizens from certain other countries to have an entry visa.

WHAT IS THE MONETARY EXCHANGE IN BELIZE?

The Belize dollar has a locked exchange rate of two Belize dollars to one US dollar.  

DO I NEED TO BRING BELIZE CURRENCY?

No, US dollars are accepted everywhere in Belize (US coins excluded). The majority of tourism facilities including hotels, restaurants and shops in populated areas accept credit cards. Street vendors and smaller establishments in remote areas may accept only cash. ATMs are easily found in most town and city centers.
